How to study for midterms

It's MIDTERM season and like most college students I'm taking midterms right before spring break (except one class -___-). Currently I am taking 4 classes; human resource management, business strategy & policy, organizational behavior and organizational theory and design. Luckily this semester 2 out of my 4 classes are hybrid (half of the work is in class and the other half is online) and I have 1 completely online class and the other is traditional. So, during my 6 years of years in college (don’t judge me), I have developed many different study habits and finally during my last year of college I have perfected my study habits. And this semester has been great thus far and I am doing well on all of my papers, tests and quizzes. Now if you’re like me you get distracted very easily, I am actually supposed to be studying right now but I’m writing this blog post!!!  So I have a few tips that I think will help you with passing, hopefully with an A, those midterms.

Tip 1: READ THE CHAPTERS AHEAD OF CLASS
I know I know, it sounds crazy right, but reading your assigned chapters ahead of time actually helps you in class. It took me a long time to realize this but finally something in my brain clicked “hey I understand what the heck the teacher is talking about in class when I actually read ahead.” If you don’t like reading 20 page chapters in one day, break it down. I find out what page number the chapter ends on and break my reading down by page numbers. For example if the chapter ends on a 9 (19, 29, 109), I will read up until I get to every page ending in 9. So I’ll read from pages 3-9, then 10-19, then 20-29, until I finish the chapter. It helps break long chapters into manageable reading sessions and you’ll be able to absorb the material better.

Tip 2: STUDY IN A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN CONCENTRATE
I can never study in the library, club COOK, is what we TU students refer to it as. The library is a popular place on campus; it has a STARBUCKS for crying out loud! Who wouldn’t want to go there? But for me all my friends go the library and if I see them, we’ll start talking and an hour later I’ll have nothing done. So I stay far away from the library. If you live on campus, the study lounges on your floor are a great places to study or if you have a quite floor it could be useful as well.

Tip 3: TAKE GOOD NOTES
Taking good notes is imperative for every class you will take in your life. Those notes come in handy when you’re studying or reviewing for an exam. My tip is to read your chapters first, then take notes after you finish. It gives you a chapter refresher, especially if you’re reading over a couple of days.  Also making flash cards helps with memorizing important terms for a big exam.

Tip 3: FORM A STUDY GROUP
You would be surprised how many other students in your class have the same problems you’re having with the material. I suggest making friends with at least 2 people in your class and study as a group before the test. That way you can bounce information and questions off each other.

Tip 5: PRAY
When in doubt if you haven’t studied AT ALL, you need to pray and hopefully the Lord is on your side AMEN!

Hopefully these tips are helpful!!
