Feature Friday : Sheila J
Well to be honest, for all of last year I was on and off
about starting this blog, and went through about 6 names, before I sat down
with a model friend of mine, in Panera bread, and prayed about a name. After we
prayed, she was like” hey you’re a model, and you like to save money so why not
think of something along those lines.” I was like wait ModelSavings.com. I was
only supposed to launch my blog on Jan 1 but I launched on Dec 25, because of
someone that is like a Fuel to my inspiration, and his logo was the first logo
I put on my sidebar. I did that as a surprise for him. RichChillTV.TV was a
part of my inspiration, I wanted to create a blog that allowed and showed
models and others in the entertainment and fashion business that you can still
do what you love. To show that you can save money while doing what you love
makes sense to me. But we all know in the beginning it is not all pretty, there
is struggle.
What do you love most about being a model?
I love being a model; it's what makes me happy. What I love
most about it is the ability to transform in front of the camera, and amaze
people. Because the Sheila you see on a regular basis is not the same Sheila when
I go in front of the camera and I love doing it.
Being a model, how do you handle having curly hair and what
is your daily hair routine?
Being a model and having naturally curly hair is NOT EASY BY
NO MEANS! In the beginning when I first started I had no makeup artist and no hair
stylist to do my hair, so it was hard for me to do it on my own. As I
progressed in my career I realized that my hair was breaking and now I just try
to get curly and straight half wigs to protect my hair from getting damaged that
way, my hair can grow long and healthy. My daily routine is usually putting
product in my hair and brushing my hair out than braiding my hair so I can put my
half wig on.
What advice would you give someone who is a huge spender and
wants to cut back and save money?
Advice that I would give to someone who is a huge spender and
wants to cut back is LEARN TO COUPON. Learning to coupon is probably the best
thing that has happened to me because I can get free things and money back. If
you want to earn cash back when you shop online check out Ebates.com, this is the
best site that I’ve ever come across. PS: Do a no spending fast and you'll
thank yourself later.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself, doing a
lot of things. I currently love the fact
that I blog and it amazes me and I will continue blogging and modeling but I
will have started doing photography, and have a magazine called The Rich
Magazine. I need to at least be in MAJOR MOVIE, on the COVER of ONE MAJOR
MAGAZINE. Also continue helping RichChillTV.TV grow because currently I do the
PR / Social Media stuff behind Rich Chill and RichChillTV. I am also an actress on the site so I will
continue doing that because to be honest, being a part of the RichChillTV
phenomenon is equivalent to my senior year of high school; it was FUN, I
laughed and I was myself.
:-) ALWAYS BE
YOURSELF! I seemed to have lost that, but I found me again.
What advice would you give someone who is trying to get into
the modeling industry?
Be true to yourself
and never let anyone tell you no. Keep fighting for what you want and never
give up. I never gave up and I always believed in myself, which is why I got so
far. I let my personality shine through even if it means being 100% weird and
being a nerd while wearing glasses so be it. I love it and if I love it someone
else well loves it.
