How to maintain healthy hair
Over the past 4 years I learned the easy and hard way to keep my hair healthy. I come across girls all the time who either are natural or are going natural and they want to know "how can I get my twist out like yours or how can I keep my hair moisturized?" When the trick is to do what works for you. You can watch YouTube videos all day but until you find the products and techniques that work for you, you'll always be in search for something new. So here are a few tips for growing and maintaining healthy hair.
2. Have a rock solid regimen- My wash day regimen has been the same for about a year now, the only changes I've made is not sectioning my hair while washing because it just takes too long (i'm talking 40 minutes- 1 hour in the shower). But other than that my hair works very well with my regimen.
3. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture - Water is your best friend and the best moisturizer you can use. Carry a small spray bottle of water in your purse so that if you're out during the day and your hair is feeling dry you can do a quick spritz and keep your day going. Also invest in a GOOD leave in conditioner, I have some recommendations below. I have tried all 3 of these products and my hair absolutely loves them.
4. Technique is key - This is so imperative to styling your hair because everything is in the technique. At one point I thought it was my lengthen that kept me from having a bomb braid out, twist out and flexi rod set but it was really my technique. There is so many different ways to do a twist out, so I literally tried every way possible until I found the technique that worked for me. It's trail and error and once you find your technique stick with it and you'll love it.
5.Sleep with a satin pillow case or scarf - To prevent any damage while sleeping, you want to protect your hair with a satin scarf or pillow case, I use both because I am a crazy sleeper and just in case one comes off I'll still be covered.
6. Protect those ends - There's nothing worst than split ends, trust me i'm currently dealing with it and I had to learn the hard way. If you don't treat them soon, the entire strand can split :-( . I'm not saying go crazy and get a trim every month, especially if your goal is to retain length. However, if you see your ends getting wispy just lightly dust your ends with clean hair shears. Also protective styles are a good way to keep those ends from getting any further damage and make sure you keep your HANDS OUT OF YOUR HAIR!
7.Time - I know everyone's ultimate goal is waist length hair but it wont happen over night. Be patient and focus on healthy hair care and don't even think or worry about growth. And soon you'll be in the mirror saying "dang my hair got long." That's what happened to me!
I hope these tips work for you, if you have any questions comment below!
