Balancing Work / Social / Personal Life

Being a 24 year old, single,  career woman, sometimes it can be hard to balance a healthy work, social and personal life. From 9-5's, happy hours, dating, moving, planning and traveling it seems like the ultimate life, and it is, however, it can be overwhelming and tiresome. Over the past 6 months I've been trying create a master plan and it's been hit and miss but I am learning. So I have a few tips to help you keep overall life healthy.

Work Life

  1. Keep work at work, never bring your work to your home environment. My job has given me a work phone, which is constantly going off because of emails from clients or phone calls from caterers, it's constant communication. But once I leave work, my phone immediately goes on SILENT. What ever comes in after 4 pm, will not be taken care of until the next day. When I get home its my time to wind down and relax not answer emails from clients. Whatever stresses I had at work will be left at work, and replaced with a warm bubble bath.
  2. Get enough sleep. I know as a young person we like to stay out all night turning up but when you have a full time career, sleep is critical. I get made fun of all the time by my friends because I like to be in bed by 9:30, YES 9:30! But I am always well rested and energized the next morning for work!
Social Life
  1. Make time for your family and friends. It's important to be around your like minded peers for advice or girl talk. As humans we need that face to face interaction and fellowship with other humans. God didn't create us to be lonely and anti social, we would never survive. I know we also need our alone time to reflect and get away from the stresses of world but everyday shouldn't be like that. Set aside 3-4 times a week to spend with your family and friends.
  2. Traveling was a big to do on my list after I graduated college and that's what I'm doing. And it doesn't have to huge long distance trips at first, start local and eventually work your way out of the country.
Personal Life

  1. Taking care of our bodies should be top priority on our to do lists. I've had so many older people tell me "exercise while you're young", "take care of and treat yourself good." I am really starting to realize how vital this it, especially exercising. So many of the health problems we have in this country could have been avoided if we took better care of bodies with the proper diet and exercise. If you're a fitness newbie, start small, work out in the privacy of your home. Yoga is always a simple starting point and then slowly start branching out into more intense workouts.
  2. Dating at our age should be about getting to know multiple people and more importantly getting to know yourself. We should never dread our single years because they are our exploration years. Take that time to figure out what God's plan for your life is and spend that time allowing him to lead you to the right person.

I hope you find these tips helpful and that you'll be able to balance your life with ease.
